Duty estimate: a range, with the threshold logic shown
Will this parcel be assessed, and roughly by how much?
- Threshold
- 800 USD
- Assessment route
- At or below the threshold — the lighter route applies
- Estimated duty and tax range
- $0.00 – $16.20
- What triggers a hold
- Threshold figure: 800 USD.
Range derived from published standard rates for the destination. This is not an official assessment.
Category selected: Sneakers. Classification depends on material and use, so the range above moves with the item rather than only with the destination. Read the United States hold handling steps.
Inputs and defaults
- Declared value in US dollars (default 180, range 1 to 5000)
- Destination region (default European Union; six regions)
- Category (default Hoodies and outerwear; eight categories)
- Whether you have a tax identifier for that destination (default no)
How it computes
- The destination threshold is read from the region data. If the declared value is at or below it, the lower-value route is reported; above it, the assessed route is reported.
- Tax is returned as a range derived from published standard rates for the destination, not as a single figure.
- If the destination requires a tax identifier and none is supplied, the result includes a reminder rather than a failure.
- If the threshold for a destination is not verified, the tool says so and links to the region page instead of estimating.
What you get out
- A three-line result card: the threshold figure, the estimated duty and tax range, and what triggers a hold
- A basis line stating that the range comes from published standard rates and is not an official assessment
- A link to the relevant region page for the hold handling steps
Boundaries and failure behaviour
- A destination with no verified threshold returns Not verified rather than a guess.
- A declared value of zero or below returns a validation message.
- The rest-of-world option returns general guidance and links to its region page rather than a number.
- No output is ever presented as tax advice or as an official determination.
